The Three Little Pigs and PLTW

Our school has implemented a new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) program called Project Lead the Way (PLTW).  After spending last week on reading The Three Little Pigs, we worked in our Launch Logs for PLTW.  First we sequenced the story by where the wolf went first, second and last.  The next day we came up with our problem:  We need a strong house that the wolf can't blow down.  The question:  How can we build a house that the wolf can't blow down?  In groups, the scholars were given a bag with the materials they would use to build a house.  Each group went through their bags to see which house they were building and what they had to use. Next, in their Launch Logs, each scholar designed a house.  Using the iPad, they worked together to design their house.  Next, they actually built their houses.  The next day, the big, bad wolf (hair dryer) came to blow their houses down.  Only one house blew down.  After we tried the 'wind' of the wolf, the kids went back to their groups to document what happened in their Launch Logs.  Below you will find the pictures of our activities. #PLTW #164scottie
